Introduction
The Braga twin metal loft bed (branded MUTIKOR on Amazon) seems to come from a generic manufacturer, but don’t let that put you off. As you can see in the image, it sports a pretty sleek design that at the same time manages to give off a robust impression as well.
The bed is 72 inches (well, 71.9 inches, if we’re to be really precise) high, and that comes with the usual notice about ceiling height: there should be enough space between the top of the bed and the ceiling to avoid head bumps. What’s enough, you ask? Well, 3 feet is what is usually recommended, but: plenty of people have reported they have put beds of similar height in 8-foot ceiling rooms and the kids manage to sit up just fine.
I estimate the under bed clearance to be about 57 inches. There is a dimension drawing available depicting this to be 58.7 inches, but that dimension includes the side rail which I guesstimate is some 2 inches thick. In any case, there is plenty of room underneath the bed to be used for all sorts of purposes: play, storage, study, entertainment…
The guardrail height on the Braga loft is specified at 13.8 inches, which is about an average height and will comfortably accommodate a 6 inch mattress the manufacturer recommends. The guardrail is continuous all around, there is no opening to alleviate access to the bed. The full-length guardrail is actually touted as a safety feature by the manufacturer, however, in combination with a vertical ladder it might make climbing into bed a little difficult for smaller kids. Not to mention climbing out of it.
Speaking of the ladder… As mentioned, it is vertical and also removable, so you can put it on either side of the bed. That’s a welcome feature as it allows for some flexibility with placement. The rungs are round and relatively thick (compared to some of the competition), and the manufacturer makes some fuss about the ladder being easy on the feet, but I don’t know. I think I’d still prefer a ladder with nice wide flat rungs as featured by the Monarch Hill Haven Loft Bed.

The Braga loft bed has a specified weight capacity of 400 lbs. That’s twice as much as what seems to be a sort of standard when it comes to twin lofts made of steel. It’s a good sign even if you are buying a bed for a 70 pound kid. Shows the manufacture’s faith in the product.
One other feature this bed touts that you don’t see very often is the anti-toppling device. It’s basically a couple of hooks that you attach to a wall in order to prevent the bed from toppling. It might be of interest in certain situations as an additional safety measure, especially if you reside in an earthquake-prone area.

Finally, the Braga loft bed is available in 3 finishes: black, white and Aqua Green.
What Users Say
At the time of this writing this loft bed has accrued over 1000 ratings on Wayfair alone (it seems not to be as popular on Amazon), with an average rating of 4.3 stars. More than 65% of reviewers gave the bed 5 stars. So, a pretty popular loft bed with a rating that is not exactly excellent, but is not too bad either.
The Pros
Build Quality: While there is not any overwhelming enthusiasm about it, for the most part buyers seem to be okay with the bed’s construction quality.
Ease Of Assembly: It shouldn’t be too difficult to put the bed together, at least according to the majority of reviewers. Directions are said to be easy to follow.
Versatility: This seems to be the part buyers like the most. They love the flexibility of the space underneath, calling it huge and cosy and spacious enough to use however you want.
The Cons
There is a not negligible amount of reports calling the bed wobbly and unstable. It also reportedly squeaks and shakes a lot when moving around.
I’ve also seen the bed called lightweight and not heavy duty. This much is true, no doubt, the weight is clearly indicated in the specs: 72.6 lbs. For something heftier look at the Haven Twin Metal Loft Bed, but of course that one costs twice as much.
Buyers also report it is not very comfortable or easy to climb into the bed. And it’s even more difficult to get down from since you have to climb over the railing to do so.
The ladder rungs are described as ‘unbelievably uncomfortable’ by one reviewer. This is not a lone opinion. Even though the rungs here are actually pretty thick compared to most similar products, most users would still have preferred nice wide flat rungs. But that’s an ailing inherent to many metal loft beds and bunk beds.
Of course, if you dig long and deep enough you will find some complaints about dents, chipped paint and such. This bed is no exception. For what it’s worth, you should be able to resolve any such issues by getting in touch with the manufacturer.
Bottom Line
This is an inexpensive metal loft bed that seemingly wants to shoot above its weight class. It touts double the weight capacity compared to most of the competition, the reversible ladder, the anti-toppling device. All for the price that is comparable or even lower than what similar products usually go for. To recommend it wholeheartedly should be a no brainer for me.
And yet… I guess I’ve seen one too many of those ‘it shakes and wobbles’ reviews to be able to do that with a clear conscience, so you’re going to have to rely on your own judgement here. Compare the current pricing (use the links at the top of this page), scan through the reviews yourself… and then just do whatever your intuition tells you.
