Introduction

This gorgeous piece is from the Little Seed line by Dorel Industries. It’s a bit more expensive and it looks it. Massive 3 inch posts, 3 inch rails, golden guardrails. Even the mattress support system looks a little on the fancy side. And finally the ladder that is done (almost) right. Angled, with comfortable wide rungs. Still no anti-slip measures, though, as far as I can tell from the available images.

The bed is 72 inches high, with the luxury 58 inches of vertical space underneath. I couldn’t find the guardrail height specification, but taking into account the available measures from the image below it looks to be about 13 inches or so. In any case, the manufacturer recommends to use a mattress with a maximum height of 6 inches. This is a sound recommendation, as it’s always good to have as much free guardrail as possible to prevent rolling off the bed.

Monarch Hill Haven Twin Metal Loft Bed - measurements.

The bed ships in one box with a gross weight of 138 lbs. That’s a relatively heavy package, so you’ll probably need two pairs of hands to get it inside the house. The net weight of the bed is 123 lbs.

Compared to some of the competition this bed is certainly heavy. But this is not a bad thing. Heavy is good. Heavy means quality. Heavy means stability. Yes, it’s a bit of a pain to get it into its place and all assembled, but the good thing is, you only have to do it once. Well, hopefully. If you don’t move or something.

Moving on. The static weight capacity for Haven Metal Loft Bed is specified at 200 lbs. If you expected that with a higher price there will come higher weight capacity — well, no. 200 seems to be some sort of standard for twin metal loft beds.

The bed is available in three finishes: white, Dove Gray, and navy. You can check the white finish in the featured image above. Dove Gray and navy are featured below. To me, that gray looks more like white, actually, but I’d get it just for the fancy name. Although the navy finish looks fantastic as well. A bit more… stately. And the gold rail looks great against the dark blue backdrop.

What Users Say

There are hundreds of user ratings on this bed across different shopping sites. On average more than 75% of those reviewers gave it 5 stars. At the time of this writing the bed had an average rating of 4.5 stars on both Amazon and Wayfair.

The Pros

Quality Of Build: Strong, sturdy, nice looking. If I had to recap the general user sentiment on this bed in just four words, this would be it. Many reviews highlight the bed’s solid metal frame and overall robust build, which is said to offer good stability and durability.

The ladder, unsurprisingly, gets many a favorable mention as well. The flat wide rungs are especially appreciated, but the lack of anti slip measures does not go unnoticed. Applying grip mat strips is suggested to remedy the problem.

Aesthetic Appeal: the bed’s sleek design gets much praise. ‘A stylish addition to any room,’ as one reviewer put it. And, yes: everyone seems to love the gold rail detail.

Ease Of Assembly: the bed is relatively easy to put together, is the verdict of the majority. With, as usual, a few (vocal) exceptions.

The Cons

Dents, scratches, chipped paint are the number one reason for low ratings. Do note that, if you were unfortunate to receive the package with damaged parts, the manufacturer offers to replace them free of charge.

The ladder can be placed on one side of the bed only. That’s a limitation inherent to the design and the product gets some bad ratings for it.

Some buyers feel the suggested 6 inch mattress is still too high. A 6 inch mattress should be within regulations with plenty of room to spare, but it’s really up to any individual to decide what does or does not look and feel safe to them.

Bottom Line

The Monarch Hill Haven Twin Metal Loft Bed is well received for its design and functionality, making it a popular choice for parents looking to get the most out of their child’s bedroom space. Yes, it does cost a bit more than some of the competition, but the robust build and the high-end look and feel might be worth the extra expense.
