Introduction

DHP’s Laurie Junior Twin Metal Loft Bed (branded Eliud on Wayfair) has well over 6000 ratings on Amazon and almost as many on Wayfair. This is one heck of a popular little loft bed.

Well, ‘little’ in the sense of ‘low.’ It is a mere 43 inches high, which means the top of the mattress sits at about 36 inches. This one is as safe as loft beds can be. Or, it is as low as low loft beds go. Wow, that one actually rhymes.

Anyway, the under bed clearance is (also low) 29 inches. There is perhaps not that much room for play, although I’m sure some (smaller) kids will still find a way. (Was that another rhyme? I seem to be on a roll here.)

There is some room for storage, though. To stash away all those toys, perhaps. I’ve seen parents report that, once a similar loft bed made appearance in their household, all the toys scattered all over the place suddenly found a home under the cool new addition to the kids’ bedroom. Little known benefits of buying a loft bed.

The guardrail height comes in at 11.5 inches. Or at least that’s what the measurement below would have us believe, although it looks to me it only shows the distance to the top of the side rail, while the mattress support slats are placed in the middle of the side rail. Half an inch difference, perhaps? In any case, with such a low bed the risk of falling off (or rather the risk of serious consequences in case of a fall) is rather low as well. Safety measures still have to be heeded, though, so it’s not recommended to use a mattress thicker than 6 inches.

DHP Laurie Junior Twin Metal Loft Bed With Slide - measurements.

Possibly the most important measure here is that of the slide. One thing you need to be very aware of with this type of bed is, they take up a lot of space. They will not fit into a very small room. The slide protrudes 57 inches into the room, and if we add that to the bed’s width we get a total of 98.5 inches of free space this bed requires. Plus some run-out area so that kids don’t bump into a wall or a piece of furniture on their way down. Altogether I’d say at least 10 feet of space is needed in that direction.

The slide has obviously been designed with safety in mind. It has these huge safety rails and the slope is really gentle as well, preventing the kids to arrive at the bottom with excessive speed.

The specified weight capacity for Laurie Junior Twin Metal Loft Bed is 200 lbs. I guess that’s plenty enough for the intended use.

The bed is available in silver and white. The white finish comes with a white slide. The silver finish comes with either a blue or a red slide. And yes, you’re right. These two slides (the white one and the red one) don’t look the same to me either. The red one looks somehow more luxurious with those extra high guardrails. Hopefully this is just an old image and the white bed actually gets the same slide as the silver one.

What Users Say

As mentioned, this is a hugely popular little loft bed, with, at the time of this writing, a combined 12 000 ratings on Amazon and Wayfair and an average score of 4.7 out of 5 stars. On average, more than 80% of reviewers gave the bed a 5 star rating.

The Pros

Build Quality: The bed is sturdy and was easy to put together. If I had a coin for each time I’ve seen this sentence (or a slight derivative) going through user reviews for the Laurie loft bed I’d, well, have quite a few coins now. Honestly, I’ve never seen such an incessant stream of positive reviews. Everybody loves the bed and thinks it’s well made. There are several buyers who have chimed in after years of use with an update to say the bed is still going strong, has survived a move etc.

Ease Of Assembly: ‘Clear instructions, easy to put together.’ ‘No major challenges in assembly.’ These are a couple of quotes from users which sum the prevalent sentiment on the subject well.

Design: If I had a coin for each time I’ve seen this bed called cute… Well, you know the rest. On a more serious note, I’ve noticed there are a whole lot of reviewers who felt a need to praise the height of this bed. Many are using it to transfer their 3 or 4 year olds to their first big girl/boy bed and apparently it’s perfect for that. The height is just right. (Uh, honestly I wasn’t even trying this time.)

And, despite my skepticism, the space underneath apparently can be used not only to store stuff, but for, you know, fun. Sit on bean bags, turn it into a cool fort… Speaking of fun, I probably don’t need to tell you that the slide is a huge hit. Perhaps not just with the kids.

The Cons

Not much to report, as you can imagine. The slide is reportedly supposed to be noisy. Not really sure what that means, I imagine when it gets hit or something, as it too is made of metal.

There are a few complaints about dents and scratches and blemishes. In such situations, if you need a replacement part, it’s best to contact the manufacturer as instructed in the assembly manual. They’ll take care of the problem.

A couple of buyers noted that the white finish looks more like cream or an eggshell white. Something to be mindful of, especially if you need to match the bed with other furniture.

Bottom Line

If you are interested in getting a metal loft bed with slide, I think you will struggle to find a better one. Not much more to say, really.
