Introduction
The Classic line of low loft beds by Maxwood Furniture features a modern, streamlined design aiming for efficiency and safety, but not discounting the aesthetic appeal. It is available in a myriad of different configurations intended for play, study or storage. Or a combination thereof.
The beds are made of solid New Zealand pine wood which has gained a considerable footing in the furniture industry due to its excellent price-quality ratio. The mattress support consists of seven wooden slats and a centered metal rod supporting them, a combination strong enough to warrant the bed’s declared weight capacity of an excellent 400 lbs.
The Classic line of low height loft beds is available in up to five finishes: white, gray, clay, pecan and walnut. Of particular interest is the clay finish, as it looks to be of distressed variety, featuring rough surface and slightly uneven color. It’s something to be aware of. The image below paints a pretty good picture of it.

The ladder is secured in place with metal hooks and features wide grooved rungs for comfortable and safe climbing.
Here are all the finishes except pecan, which you can check out at the top of the page. Note: not all configurations are available in 5 finishes. In fact, for the most part you’ll only be able to choose among three.
As you may have noticed, this loft bed comes in a fair amount of different configurations. And this is just a beginning.
Note: in this post I’m only covering the beds that come with a ladder. If you are interested in Classic low lofts that come with stairs, there is a separate post here:
Twin Size Low Loft Bed

This is your basic configuration. Just the raised bed, a ladder with 3 comfortable grooved steps and some space underneath to be turned into a play area. Or a junkyard. Or whatever tickles your kid’s fancy. As said, the bed is 50 inches high, total, so the top of the mattress would come at roughly 42 inches. The under bed clearance is 33.25 inches.
Twin Size Low Loft Bed With Slide

Okay, the fun can officially start. The bed you see above is equipped with a new and improved version of slide that the manufacturer refers to as Easy Slide. What’s new and improved about it, you ask? Well, as you can see in the image above, the Easy Slide features a lowered top platform with tall side rails and a hand detail. This is meant to center and stabilize kids before the sliding starts, and to minimize the possibility of falling over the side. The lower starting point also reduces the speed of sliding, and the curved bottom softens the landing.
One other small note: the thing with slides is, they take up a lot of space. So, do make sure you have enough of it in your room in advance. And don’t forget there needs to be some space between the slide’s end and any wall or furniture near-by so that the kids don’t bump into them as they swoosh down.
- Dimensions: 81.5” L x 92.3” W x 50” H
Twin Size Low Loft Bed With Curtain

And the fun continues… So. Some facts. The curtain seen here includes one front and one side panel. This effectively covers only half of the bed, so, in order to enclose the under bed area completely, you’ll have to put the bed in the corner as seen above. Or get another pair of curtains. Which are made of 100% cotton and transparent plastic (the windows).
There are 6 curtain models available, everything from Princess to Firetruck. Learn more about it in this post:
The curtains attach with a Velcro strip. Here are the dimensions:
- Front panel: 75” L x 33” H
- Side panel: 38.5” L x 33” H

If you’d like to double the fun for your kid, here’s an easy way to do it: get a bed with curtain and slide.
Twin Size Low Loft Bed With Desk

Ah, kids… They grow so fast. Before you know it they are ready for school and the play curtain comes down and the study desk goes in. Or out, more accurately. This one is on casters, it slides out when it’s time to study, in when it’s time to play. It can also serve as a bedside table. The design is reversible, that is to say you can switch the positions of the ladder and desk if that makes more sense in your room.
- Desk dimensions: 41” L x 22.75” W x 34.25” H
- Bed dimensions: 81.5” L x 80” W x 50” H
Twin Size Low Loft Bed With Desk And Bookcases

Things are heating up here… Added to the desk in this configuration is a serious amount of book shelves, to store all those books the young would-be geniuses will then eat up greedily in the pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. Right… Or, do they even do that anymore? I mean, use actual books. Or is it all iPads these days? In any case, the shelves are there, whatever they get used for.
Twin Size Low Loft Bed With Bookcases

If you have no use for a desk, but storage is a different story, this configuration might be of interest. Two bookcases here, one 3-shelf and one 6-shelf with different heights, for storing various everyday items.
What Users Say
I have perused hundreds of reviews on this loft bed across different shopping sites and the lowest average rating I’ve come across is 4.4 stars on Amazon. Close to 70% of the ratings (at the time of this writing) were 5 stars. One star reviews are few.
The Pros
The bed gets praised the most for its sturdiness and build quality. One buyer wrote the quality was better than expected for such a reasonable price. Another buyer shared that her husband, who is a carpenter, was surprised at the great quality. That word, quality, gets repeated a lot in the reviews. In a good sense. One reviewer called the bed ‘incredibly robust’ and supported that with ‘the bed doesn’t feel cheaply constructed whatsoever.’ She also praised the ‘thick and solid wooden slats.’
The height of the bed has been referred to as ‘exactly right’ on several occasions. Not too tall for younger kids and those uncomfortable sleeping very high above the ground, but still offering enough space underneath for various uses. Like a reading nook. Or a sleeping place for a dog.
Unsurprisingly, the bed gets plenty of compliments on its looks, mostly it’s being called cute and beautiful.
The accessories like the slide and under bed curtain get some favorable mentions and they certainly are — and this will come as a shock to you — a hit among the kids.
The Cons
There is some talk of wobbliness. Now, pretty much all loft beds are called wobbly by a certain percentage of users, and it’s hard to say if some people are just more sensitive to it or if there is perhaps some user error involved there. Possibly both. This is a low loft bed, though, so it should wobble less. Or not at all.
I’ve noticed some dissatisfaction with the assembly instructions. One user called them ‘brutal,’ complaining that ‘small hardware is not identified by numbers and (is) purely a guess which to use.’ That’s probably too harsh, but it is true the instructions are all pictures and nothing in the way of written explanations.
Any bunk bed or loft bed worth its salt (read: those with enough online reviews) gets its share of reports of broken pieces, dents, cracks. This one is no exception, but such reports are relatively few.
Bottom Line
It is hard to find fault to Classic Twin Size Low Loft Bed. It is made of quality solid pine wood; has good mattress support with declared weight capacity of 400 lbs; the 14 inch guardrails provide plenty of margin when the bed is fitted with an up to an 8 inch mattress. On top of that the bed looks great, is available in up to 5 finishes and has gathered more than a fair amount of favorable reviews.
I would say this product is definitely worth your consideration.
