Introduction
The Walker Edison Sunset Full Metal Loft Bed (branded Elita at Wayfair and Timothee on Amazon) features a design that might be considered a style mark of WE loft beds: a clean-lined metal frame with two ladders, one at the headboard and one at the footboard. Circular metal tubes are used for everything except for the side rails.
Let’s review some basic information. The bed is 71 inches tall, so about an average for this type of bed or thereabouts. The under bed clearance is specified at 57 inches, also a pretty customary figure, give or take an inch. It provides plenty of space for whatever purpose you need: storage, play, leisure, entertainment.

The guardrail height is specified at 14 inches which is actually a very decent figure for a metal loft bed and makes it possible for the manufacturer to recommend the use of a mattress up to 9 inches thick. Compared to 6 inches which is what most other metal lofts can accommodate, 9 inches is one very comfortable mattress. However, do note that this is just about in compliance with the regulations which say there must be at least 5 inches of space between the top of the mattress and the top of the guardrail. So, with that said, an 8 inch mattress is as thick as I’d personally go with this bed. Just to be on the safe side.
The guardrail, as you may have noticed, is continuous all around, there is no opening(s) for easier access to the bed. Some younger kids might struggle with it, but then, seeing how this is full size bed, it might be intended more toward tweens and teens and college students.
There are two vertical ladders, both featuring the same thin rungs. No matter which side you access the bed from, your feet will hurt the same. This should be the bed’s motto. Unless of course you wear slippers to bed. Or if you have really thick insensitive soles. Or if you’ve been smart and used some padding. Pool noodles are usually recommended, but some pipe insulation might do the job even better.
The Sunset loft bed supports up to 200 pounds of weight. That’s actually a bit less than what similar full metal loft beds offer, and it sort of belies that supposition of mine that the bed is intended for a bit older crowd.
On the manufacturer’s website it says three finishes are available: black, white, silver. Standard stuff.
What Users Say
At the time of this writing the Sunset loft bed has accrued over 3000 ratings on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.3 stars. At Wayfair, there were close to 2000 ratings with the same average of 4.3 stars. So, it’s safe to say we have a highly popular item here with pretty good ratings.
The Pros
Build Quality: The majority of buyers seem to be relatively happy with the bed’s quality. I say ‘relatively’ because there is often a little caveat attached such as: ‘a little wobbly but not scary’ or ‘sturdy enough to hold a 6 year old.’ Almost everyone agrees the bed is a great value for the price, so perhaps that explains why the buyers are somewhat lenient.
Ease Of Assembly: For the most part it seems users did not have much trouble putting this bed together, although many point out that you need at least two people for some parts of the task. But, as always, there are those who claim the assembly job is a PITA and the instructions suck. The latter group does seem to be smaller, though.
The Cons
There are quite a few reports of wobbliness and shaking. And squeaking. While some users don’t really see anything alarming in it (show me a loft bed that doesn’t shake at least a little), others feel the problem is too severe and the only way to cure it is to attach the loft bed to a wall.
The ladder rungs are catching a lot of criticism for being uncomfortable on the feet. The comments on it range from ‘not the most comfortable’ to ‘hideously uncomfortable.’ In fact, the whole vertical ladder plus completely closed guardrails combination gets plenty of disapproval, as it can make it hard for younger kids to access the bed. And harder even to descend.
Bottom Line
Possibly the most oft-repeated phrase about this bed that I have seen while browsing the reviews is this one: great value for the price. And I think it describes this bed well. While not perfect, it’ll perform its function and will look good doing it, all for a pretty decent price.
