Introduction
It is obvious at first glance that there is something special about Monarch Hill Haven Full Metal Loft Bed. The robust posts and rails that form a clean lined bed frame, the golden guardrail detail, the safe and comfortable ladder — this bed just oozes quality, elegance and sophistication. Of course, all that comes at a price: this gorgeous piece will set you back nearly twice as much as a similar, but a little more ordinary creation.
At 72 inches the bed is quite high, but that really is pretty much a normal height for this type of loft bed. The upside of such a design is, there is a whole lot of vertical space underneath (59.5 inches, to be exact), to be used however you like.
The downside is, you can’t put it in a room with a low ceiling. I’d say you need at least an 8 foot ceiling for this bed. 9 would be better. 9 would be in line with the recommendation that says there should be 3 feet of space between the top of the bed and the ceiling. Of course, that also depends on the bed’s occupant. A younger child would probably be able to sit up just fine in an 8-foot ceiling room. A tall adult — well, let’s just say it might get a little claustrophobic up there for an adult with just two feet of space between the bed and the ceiling.
The guardrail height here is about 12 inches. Not a luxurious amount, but it will do just fine with a 6 inch mattress that is recommended by the manufacturer. And 6 inches is as thick as I’d go with the mattress. On a bed this high you want as much of free guardrail as possible. Plus, the thinner the mattress, the further away from the ceiling the bed occupant is.
The ladder on this bed deserves some praise, for once. Unlike most metal loft beds out there it utilizes wide rungs that facilitate a safe and comfortable access to the bed. The ladder being angled helps in that regard as well. However, do have in mind that this means it protrudes into the room almost 18 inches, so the bed requires almost as much space width-wise as it does length-wise.

The net weight of the bed is 122.5 lbs. So, compared to some of the competition this bed is quite heavy. But this was to be expected. Those 3 inch posts and rails have to come with some weight. But weight means stability. Weight is not bad for a loft bed. Well, at least once you have it assembled and in place. 🙂
The static weight capacity for Haven Full Metal Loft Bed is specified at 300 lbs. This is a 50% increase compared to the twin size version of this bed, which is more or less a standard practice as full metal loft beds are intended more for older kids and adults.
So far as I can tell the full size version of the Haven loft bed is available in white finish only. Unlike the twin size version which also comes in light gray and a lovely navy color.
What Users Say
There are hundreds of user ratings on this bed across different shopping sites. At the time of this writing the bed had an average rating of 4.5 stars at Wayfair and 4.4 stars on Amazon.
The Pros
Quality Of Build: ‘Very solid and sturdy.’ ‘Incredibly sturdy, we were shocked.’ ‘Very sturdy design.’ ‘Solid, sturdy, and heavier gauge steel than expected.’ ‘The quality is awesome, it’s sturdy even with an adult lying on it.’ — These are some quotes from users happy with the bed’s build quality. And they are in the majority. You’d be really hard pressed to find a negative review in that department.
The ladder gets many a favorable mention as well, especially the flat wide rungs. Some users did notice the lack of anti slip measures, though. Applying grip mat strips is suggested to remedy the problem.
Aesthetic Appeal: ‘Beautiful’ is the second most repeated adjective concerning this bed in user reviews, right behind ‘sturdy.’ ‘A stylish addition to any room,’ as one reviewer put it. And, yes: everyone seems to love the gold rail detail.
Ease Of Assembly: The bed is relatively easy to put together, that’s the verdict of the majority. The instructions are said to be clear and there are apparently not a lot of parts, which is a big plus for many.
The Cons
Dents, scratches, chipped paint, missing parts or screws, these are main reasons for lower ratings. Which is understandable. Even though the manufacturer offers to replace damaged parts free of charge, it’s still a major hassle to go through.
The ladder can be placed on one side of the bed only. That’s a limitation inherent to the design and the product gets some bad ratings for it.
Bottom Line
I you are looking for a full size metal loft bed, the Monarch Hill Haven is probably as good as they get. The extra robust build and the high-end look do drive the price up a little, but the majority of buyers seem to think the bed is worth the added expense.
