Introduction
Here we have an interesting loft bed from a little known manufacturer (note: the bed is branded Heike at Wayfair). I don’t do many reviews of products from unknown companies, but this one is pretty unique and innovative. Starting with design. The slanted posts that follow the line of the staircase might have you believe you’re looking at a twin over full bunk bed at first. Except, of course, there is no lower bunk.
But there is plenty of other stuff. The desk, for example. It spans the entire length of the bed and, at nearly 16 inches of depth, provides plenty of surface for you (or your child) to read, work, do homework, play.
The staircase with slanted handrails (that double as bed posts) provides an easy access to the sleeping area. But of course that’s not all it does. No less than 5 drawers are incorporated into the stairway design, and some of them are pretty big. Perfect for storing bed sheets. Or something.

But that’s not all the storage capabilities this product offers. On the other side of the bed there is a cabinet with two more drawers (albeit somewhat smaller), two open shelves and a concealed storage area. There really is no excuse for clutter in the bedroom with this bed.

The CityLight loft bed is made of a combination of solid pine wood and manufactured wood. My guess would be the bed frame is solid wood, while the storage elements are probably manufactured wood. So it usually goes.
The bed is 68.3 inches high. This is a good height for a loft bed. It’s not so high so as to create a problem fitting it into an 8 foot ceiling room, yet it still offers plenty of vertical clearing underneath. Ho much exactly this clearing is I couldn’t tell you because I didn’t find that specification anywhere, but: based on the image below, my estimate would be about 54 inches. Or so. Enough space for a reasonably tall person to be able to sit up straight at the desk without feeling too claustrophobic. Just don’t forget where you are when you stand up. 🙂

The guardrail height with this loft bed is specified at 11.1 inches. This is a bit on the low side. You can use a mattress with the maximum thickness of 6 inches. This would leave you with 5 inches of free guardrail, which is an absolute minimum required by the regulations. It might actually be better to go with a 5 inch mattress, just to be on the safe side.
The weight capacity for the CityLight loft bed is specified at 250 lbs. It’s a decent enough figure for a twin sized loft, seeing how it’s intended to be used by a single person, and most likely a child.
It is worth noting that the bed is quite heavy, over 300 lbs. It is delivered in three 100 lbs boxes so you might want to schedule some help for the delivery time to haul those packages inside.
Finally, this rather unique loft bed is available in 3 finishes: along with the espresso finish you’ve been able to check out throughout this article, there are gray and white finishes.
What Users Say
At the time of this writing there were only about 40 ratings on this bed at Wayfair and none that I could see on Amazon. So, not much, but maybe enough to draw some conclusions. The average rating, btw, at Wayfair was 4.2 stars.
Quality Of Build: The reviews are a bit mixed on this. For the most part users seem happy with the quality of this bed. The fact that more than half the ratings are five star testifies to that. There are also a number of four star ratings where users, although generally happy with the bed, did have some objection, be that about damaged parts, flimsy legs or a sticky drawer. And then there are a few one or two star reviews where buyers were not happy with the product at all, calling it ‘not at all sturdy,’ ‘really cheap’ or ‘kinda wobbly.’
As I said, though, the majority of reviews are excellent. Here’s a few quotes: ‘Nice quality & great drawer space’ ; ‘This is probably the greatest thing to happen to our kids room’ ; ‘Overall looks good and a good value for the money’ ; ‘This bed worked perfectly for storage! Both a bed and dresser. Great quality too!’ ; ‘Amazing space saving loft bed!! Great storage!’ ; ‘The desk is very spacious and there’s so much storage! Good quality.’
Ease Of Assembly: Surprisingly, the reviews are a bit mixed on this as well. Given the complexity of this piece of furniture I expected an avalanche of comments vilifying the assembly process, but there are actually quite a few users who wrote that assembling the bed was easy. Go figure.
That said, ‘easy’ is probably too strong a word in this case. This is a pretty complex piece of furniture and it does take a fair amount of time and some skill to put together. 5 to 7 hours for two people seems to be sort of a norm. And there are some users who have had a fair amount of trouble with it. Blaming, as usual, the directions. 🙂
Bottom Line
This seems like a very well designed space saving solution for smaller rooms. I usually prefer the average rating to be a little higher, but 4.2 is not that bad, really. Especially taking into account the relatively low amount of reviews.
