Introduction
The Classic Full Over Full is part of Maxwood Furniture’s family of bunk beds. It’s a simple, elegant, modern-looking piece of kids’ furniture. Available in six different finishes, you should have no trouble fitting it into pretty much any living space, be that your growing kids’ room, a guest room or perhaps a vacation home.
The metal-on-metal structural connections (pictured below in pecan finish) contribute to the bed’s sturdiness and stability and assure it won’t get wobbly over time. And even if it does, you just need to re-tighten those nuts and bolts and screws again.

The bunk bed can be separated into two individual units. However, in order to make them look identical, you have to use the two bed ends from the top bunk as footboards and the two bed ends from the bottom bunk as headboards. If you already have the beds assembled and stacked up, this will mean some work for you.
The ladder on this bed is of the vertical clipped-on variety and does not reach the floor. Some prefer it that way (it doesn’t get in the way and you can’t trip over it), while others think an angled ladder is easier and safer to climb. The ladder is reversible, which just means you can attach it to either side of the bed. As seen below, it features wide grooved anti-slip steps for safer climbing and a convenient and attractive hand-hole detail.

The bed is available in six finishes: white, espresso, gray, natural, pecan and walnut. Note that some finishes go out of stock on occasion, but are usually back in a few weeks.
The Classic Full Over Full Bunk Bed is made of solid New Zealand pine wood, a type of softwood often used in the manufacture of furniture due to its uniform and smooth grain, durability, resilience and sustainability.
Each bunk can support up to 400 lbs. This is achieved with the help of seven slats and a metal rod running lengthwise in the middle of the bed(s) for additional support (you can see the rod in the two bare-bones images below). The slats are said to be made of plywood, but those in the pictures look like solid wood to me. I could be wrong, though. Or the pictures may be dated. In any case, the slats are spaced 9 inches apart, which may be too much if you plan to use a softer foam mattress. For such cases the manufacturer offers an upgraded slat roll with 14 slats which are spaced 2.5 inches apart.
Classic Full Over Full Bunk Bed With Trundle

If additional sleeping space is needed, a configuration that includes a trundle bed is available. Note that the trundle is twin size and rolls in and out on casters. The trundle bed can’t be tucked underneath the main bed completely, there is a lip (as seen in the image above) that prevents that.
Classic Full Over Full Bunk Bed With Under Bed Drawers

Classic Full Over Full Bunk Bed is also available in a configuration with two storage drawers. These are 37 inches wide and 23 inches deep and are freely rolled under the bed.
What Users Say
There are hundreds of ratings for this bunk bed spread across different shopping sites and the lowest average rating I’ve come across is 4.6 stars. So, people seem to like this bed well enough. More than three quarters of the reviewers gave it five stars. One star reviews you can almost count on one hand.
The Pros
The bed gets high praise for its quality, its looks and sturdiness and high weight capacity. One user called it legitimately amazing. Coming from a family of overweight people she needed to make sure she got a sturdy piece of furniture and this one, in her words, is the real deal. Reportedly it didn’t make a single creak with the woman’s niece jumping on the top bunk (with adult supervision, of course).
Another buyer reported her bed has been taken apart, moved and reassembled twice and is still in perfect condition other than a few nicks from moving.
By all accounts, Classic Full Over Full Bunk Bed is not too difficult to assemble. Plenty of reviews I’ve seen has the phrase ‘easy to assemble’ in it. For some it took only a couple of hours, for others a little longer. A 62 year old woman reported she built 3 of these beds herself. She advises to put together the bottom bunk first and then build the other bunk on top of it, instead of building the top bunk on the floor and then getting help to lift it in place. Or at least that’s how I understood it.
The Cons
Negative reviews are few. A couple of reports on missing pieces or pieces broken prior to assembly. One buyer proclaimed the material feels too light to be solid wood. Another declared the bunk bed is not stable and keeps shaking every time someone turns during sleep or when going up the steps.
Bottom Line
By all accounts this appears to be a well designed and well crafted full over full bunk bed. It has a pretty high declared weight capacity, is made of quality solid wood material, meets or exceeds all safety regulations. And it has gathered plenty of overwhelmingly positive reviews. For me, the most telling of all is the one left by a verified interior design customer who has used this bunk bed in several of the vacation rentals she has designed and set-up. Quote:
They seem to be holding up well to the potential wear and tear.
Hard to imagine a better endorsement.
