Introduction

The Bedz King (branded Harriet Bee Tena at Wayfair) might not be as well known a brand as some others featured at this site, but that should not dissuade you from taking a good look at their offerings as they are quite attractive and well-rounded and get good reviews.

So, here we have a twin over full bunk bed featuring the classic vertical slats (also known as mission style) design. Nothing you haven’t seen before, but there is a reason why designers choose this style over and over: it looks good in pretty much any environment.

The bed is nearly 70 inches high, which places it among taller bunk beds of its kind. This may be a bit of a problem if you have a lower ceiling room. From the image below, it looks like the mattress foundation for the top bunk lies about 51 inches high. Add an 8 inch mattress and you’re almost 5 feet up in the air. Since it’s recommended there should be at least 3 feet of space between the top of the mattress and the ceiling, you should be okay if the ceiling in your room is at least 8 feet tall.

Note: the image below depicts the full over full version of this bunk bed, but all the vertical measurements should be the same. It’s just the top bunk’s width that is different.

The good thing about the bed’s height is, there is ample amount of space between the two bunks. Specifically, 38 inches from mattress foundation to mattress foundation. With an 8 inch mattress on the bottom bunk, that leaves 30 inches of free space and plenty of comfort for even a bit taller person.

I have not found the guardrail height specification for this bunk bed anywhere, but from the image above we can conclude that it measures at least 16 inches. That 15 1/4” measurement applies to the distance between the top of the guardrail and the top of the side rail. Since the side rail itself looks to be more than 4 inches thick, we can add at least an inch (or even a bit more) to that measurement. In fact, 16 inches might even be a bit conservative estimation.

In any case, it seems like a very generous guardrail that allows for use of a comfortable mattress. You should only make sure that there is at least 5 inches of space between the upper edge of the guardrail and the surface of the mattress. The manufacturer recommends that the thickness of mattress and foundation combined does not exceed 9 inches.

The weight limit for the upper bunk is specified at 175 lbs and 200 for the lower bed. There are 14 wooden slats per bed which look like they could take bit more load than that, but I guess the manufacturer went a bit conservative here. Better safe than sorry.

The built-in staircase is 25 inches wide and comes with a matching handrail and anti-slip strip on each of the steps, providing the safest possible access to the top bunk.

In addition, each of the steps houses a big drawer, 4 in total, to take care of the big chunk of your storage needs.

All this storage and safety does come at the expense of some bulk and some weight. The staircase adds quite a bit to the bed’s length, for a total that exceeds 103 inches, so do make sure your room is big enough before committing to a purchase. At 330 lbs, this bunk bed is also quite heavy, although weight is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to furniture, as heftier products are usually more stable.

The Bedz King twin/full bunk bed with staircase is available in 3 finishes. You can check out the white color at the top of this page and the gray and dark cherry below.

What Users Say

At the time of this writing there was over 1000 reviews on this bunk bed at Wayfair alone (pertains to all configurations, not just twin over full), with the average rating of 4.7 stars. Almost 80 percent of reviewers gave the bed 5 stars.

Build Quality: The large majority of reviewers found this bed to be very sturdy and well built. Good quality, great quality, excellent quality, very well made, well crafted, solid sturdy furniture — such praise is repeated over and again in user reviews. A few buyers took time to express their satisfaction with the product after years of use. Even the packaging has received compliments.

The complaints in this department have mostly to do with wood quality which some buyers feel is soft and dents easily. There are also some reports of cracked pieces, screws falling out (?), paint wearing off after months of use. Such reports are pretty rare, though.

Ease Of Assembly: I was surprised not to see more complaints in this department. I mean, this is a pretty complex piece of furniture, just the fact that it arrives in 6 boxes should have a daunting effect. But, no. In fact, the consensus seems to be that the bed is relatively easy to assemble. It does take a few hours, even for two people, but the instructions are reportedly easy to follow.

Design: It took some effort to find a user who was not completely satisfied with the appearance of this bunk bed, but I did track down one who did not like that the connecting hardware is exposed. But even she admitted the bed was ‘very pretty.’

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a twin over full bunk bed with tons of storage this one is hard to beat. Good looks, good reviews, 6 big storage drawers. Definitely deserves to go on your shortlist. At least.
