Introduction

The Monarch Hill Haven Twin Metal Junior Loft Bed is part of the Little Seeds brand, a division of Dorel Industries. Little Seeds describe themselves as a furniture brand providing families with high quality children’s products with great style, and I would say this is certainly the case here. This gorgeous low loft bed with its clean lines and gold bed rail will provide a touch of glamour to any room and is certain to become a center of attention to your kid(s) and their friends. For a while, anyway.

The bed is a mere 49 inches tall. With the guardrail being about 13 inches high, and the recommended mattress thickness of 6 inches, this means the top of the mattress sits at about 42 inches off the floor, plenty low enough to assuage any safety concerns some parents have about elevated sleeping spaces.

The under bed clearance is specified at 35 inches. This opens up some space to be used for either storage or play. The latter is more realistic with smaller kids, but, then again, they are the ones this bed has been made for. The under bed area can be secluded with a curtain, providing kids with a ‘safe space’ that is just their own. Alternatively, if the situation requires, you could even squeeze in a regular bed in there.

The ladder is angled, with nice wide rungs, as comfortable as metal ladders get. Yes, being angled means it protrudes into the room some, and yes it can get in the way, but: safe, easy and comfortable access to the lofted bed should be a priority. There are no anti slip measures as far as I can tell, but if necessary that can easily be remedied with some grip tape.

Despite its rather elaborate mattress support system the bed still has a weight limit of (only) 200 lbs, which seems almost like a standard for twin metal loft beds. Seeing how it is intended to be used by kids, more is probably not needed, and I’m sure it’ll also support a mom who wants to squeeze in there to read her precious one a bedtime story.

Three finishes are supposed to be available for this bed: navy, white and Dove Gray. Unfortunately I have not been able to source any photo depicting this bed in white, but it’s probably not too hard to imagine how that would look. Plus you can find some in the comments section at Wayfair.

What Users Say

Being a little more expensive, the Haven Twin Metal Junior Loft Bed has (so far) not garnered as many reviews as some other loft beds in this class, but 160 plus ratings at Wayfair is plenty enough to draw some conclusions. The average rating at the time of this writing was 4.7 stars. Well over 80% of reviewers gave the bed 5 stars.

The Pros

Build Quality: I have not noticed any real complaints in this department. Pretty much everyone agrees this is one very solidly constructed loft bed. Expressions like: strong, very sturdy, durable, very stable, well made, very solid, are frequently used by buyers to convey their satisfaction with the bed’s construction quality. One user remarked that the steel was of heavier gauge than expected. Another opined that the metal pieces were not heavy, yet the frame felt nice and sturdy. A third one wrote, (only) half jokingly: ‘I am impressed at how well made and durable this is! It may even survive my kids!’

Design: If there is one aspect of the Haven Junior loft bed that buyers are happy about even more than the build quality, it would be the design. Very good looking, modern looking, very pretty, cute, adorable — these are some of the compliments buyers are showering this bed with. One user even called it ‘classically stunning.’ Whatever that means. The gold railing gets some extra love. Makes the bed feel fancy, one buyer shared, while another one wrote:

I love the way the ‘brass’ safety bars give this loft bed a little extra something and the slightly nautical vibes.

East Of Assembly: This bed is really easy to put together, there seems to be a consensus among reviewers on that. Can’t say I’ve noticed a dissenting opinion. As one user put it: ‘A little assembly work but worth it.’

The Cons

Not much to report, really, other than some of the usual light dents and chipped paint. If you get unlucky and it happens to you, the right way to remedy the situation is to contact the manufacturer (not the seller) as it is stated in the assembly instructions. They’ll take care of the problem.

Other than that, I’ve seen a couple of reports calling the bed ‘a little wobbly’ and ‘a little shaky.’ Also, more than one reviewer noticed that the welding on the gold rails could be better.

Bottom Line

If you are on the market for a low metal loft bed, I very much doubt you will find one that looks as good and is built as well as the Monarch Hill Haven Junior. Yes, it costs a bit more than some of the competition, but I guess that’s how things work in this world. With better quality (most often) comes a higher price. Luckily it’s not that much higher in this case.
