Introduction

Here we have a configuration of the Classic low twin bunk bed by Maxwood Furniture with included slide. The full review of the bed can be found here:

In this post I’ll concentrate on stuff that has to do with the slide.

The first thing you need to know, there are two versions of the slide. There is the regular version and then there is the new and improved version which the manufacturer calls Easy Slide.

As seen in the image above, the Easy Slide features a lowered top platform with tall side rails and a hand detail. This is meant to center and stabilize kids before the sliding starts, to minimize the possibility of falling over the side. The lower starting point also reduces the speed of sliding, and the curved bottom softens the landing.

The regular slide is just a straight plank with side rails.

Another thing to think about when considering a bunk bed with slide is the space. Slides require a lot of space, so much so that the bed in fact becomes wider than it is long. In this particular case this amounts to a total of 84.5 inches for the regular slide and 92.3 inches for Easy Slide. Or, to put it differently, the regular slide takes up about 42 inches of space on its own, while Easy Slide needs about 50 inches.

Bottom line: Easy Slide offers more comfort and safety, but this will cost you 8 more inches of space. And some $$. 🙂

Also, when you calculate the available space in your room, do consider that the slide end needs to be some distance away from the wall or any furniture so that the kids don’t crash into them as they land.

Moving on. Finishes. The bed with the regular slide comes in white, gray and clay finish. That’s it. Three colors. The Easy Slide low bunk bed is available in white, gray, clay, pecan and walnut. Note that some finishes go out of stock on occasion and it can be a few weeks before they are available again.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that this bunk bed can be had in the configuration with slide and under bed curtain for even more fun, or the combination of slide and stairs for more safety. Or, why not, all of the above.
