Introduction

The Cindy Kids Twin Low Loft Bed by Naomi Home distinguishes itself from other low loft bed offerings by featuring no less than 3 openings in the guardrail. Why is that good, you ask? Flexibility. Each of the openings has a purpose. One is to ease the entry to the bed via the ladder. One is to provide access to the slide. And the third one accommodates that cute little chalkboard.

But the best thing about it is, this stuff can be arranged freely according to what suits your room layout best. For example, if you have a piece of furniture at one end of the room that prevents the installment of the slide, place the slide at the other end of the bed. If your room is too narrow to accommodate the slide in that direction, place the slide at the footboard. Brilliant. The images below show all possible configurations.

Moving on. The bed is 44 inches tall. That’s pretty standard for a low loft with a slide attached. You don’t want that slide to be too steep, for safety reasons. The height of the under bed clearing is not specified, but my estimate (based on the dimensions presented below) would be about 28 inches. Enough to accommodate some storage perhaps, or you could turn it into the kid’s play/lounge area.

The guardrail height, again, is not clearly specified. At Wayfair it says 8 inches, but that obviously can’t be right. My own estimate would be around 14 inches. If we take that main side rail to be about 4 inches thick, a 14 inch guardrail makes sense. In any case, in the assembly instructions the manufacturer states the maximum mattress thickness should not exceed 7.5 inches, and that’s really the most important information you need.

As always when there is a slide involved, a special attention should be paid to its dimensions. Slides are big and protrude into the room a lot. And in this case they can protrude in two directions. That 59 inch measurement from the image above does not tell us a lot, but with a little bit of math we can infer that the slide takes about 51 inch of space. Adding to that the 78 inches of the bed itself we get about 129 inches or just under 11 feet this bed requires with the slide placed at the footboard. Plus add a couple of feet for a run-out area. You don’t want the kid(s) to bump into a wall or a piece of furniture on the way down.

If the slide is placed in the other direction, at the side of the bed, then the whole thing will take about 94 inches or just under 8 feet. Why am I harping on this? Because I’d like you to make sure you have enough space in your room. I’ve seen stories of buyers who have failed to do so and were then unable to fit the slide in. Imagine the tragedy and rivers of tears shed by the little one(s) when that happens.

One other thing that needs to be mentioned is the weight capacity for this bed. Because, well, it’s not exactly clear what it is. The manufacturer provides no info, not on its website, not in the assembly instructions. If we’re to believe the image above, it is 450 lbs. That would be fabulous, if correct. Some retailers disagree, though. Wayfair says 180 lbs, Walmart says 200 lbs. So which is it? I really do not know. If this is important to you contact the manufacturer and try to get an answer from the horse’s mouth.

Finally, the finishes. Two are available, the plain old white and the light brown they call Latte. Check them out below.

What Users Say

At the time of this writing there were close to 100 ratings on this loft bed at Wayfair with the average rating coming in at 4.5 stars. On Amazon there were over 300 ratings, with an average of 4.0 stars.

The Pros

Quality Of Build: The majority of buyers seem to be happy with the quality of this product. A few supportive quotes: ‘really great quality,’ ‘very secure and sturdy,’ ‘made with quality wood,’ ‘sturdy and strong,’ ‘almost a year now and it’s still perfect,’ ‘seems plenty sturdy to me.’

Design: Users love the look of this bed. It’s being called anything from ‘really cute’ to ‘beautiful.’ I have not seen a dissenting opinion on this.

Ease Of Assembly: This bed is not difficult to assemble if we go by the majority of user’s reports. ‘Pretty simple to put together,’ ‘very easy to put together,’ ‘assembly was easy and took less time than expected’ — these are a few quotes from people who went through the process. Dissenting opinions are few and have mostly to do with inadequate labelling and unclear instructions.

Cool Factor: The kids just love this bed. The slide and the chalkboard are starring in nearly every review. And when kids are delighted, parents are happy.

The Cons

The bed has an average of ‘just’ 4.0 at Amazon, which is lower than I like to see. It appears the main reason for that is the slide. Some users call it flimsy, some say it is made of very cheap thin wood and even label it ‘dangerous.’ While I would not call such opinions prevalent, there are enough of them to say the reviews are a bit mixed.

The ladder gets some negative opinions as well. It reportedly got broken for a few buyers, one of them saying ‘the screws are way too short to hold anything.’

There are also some reports of dents and dings and missing hardware, but I’d say nothing out of the ordinary.

Bottom Line

The Cindy Twin Low Loft Bed looks great and is unique in its flexibility when it comes to positioning the slide, the ladder and the chalkboard. A chalkboard itself is quite a rarity. Kids love it, as they do the slide. There are mixed reports on the bed’s build quality, though, especially when it comes to the slide. You might want to go through the reviews yourself to get a better feel for the state of affairs.
