Introduction

This loft bed is the twin sister of the Camaflexi bunk beds (branded Mack & Milo Burkley at Wayfair) and it features the same planked panel design for the headboard and footboard and horizontal plank guard rails. It is also of the same robust build, as evidenced by its weight capacity which comes in at 650 lbs, a highly respectable figure. Mostly this is due to the manufacturer not skimping on the mattress support: the Camaflexi loft bed comes with 14 mattress support slats and a perpendicular rail running in the middle of the bed for additional support. Designed for strength and stability as it should be.

The ladder on this loft bed is angled and features 5 nice wide steps for comfortable climbing. It’s hard to tell from the available images, but according to the manufacturer the steps are grooved to allow for a safer voyage up to the bed. The specifications say nothing about the ladder being reversible; however, I noticed in some of the images taken by the reviewers the ladder being fitted to different sides of the bed, so apparently it is possible to attach it to either side of the bed.

The guardrail height is specified at 16 inches, another outstanding feature that makes it possible to fit the bed with a 10 inch mattress and still be comfortably in compliance with the safety regulations.

Note that this loft bed is somewhat higher than an average bunk bed, by 6 or 7 inches, so be sure that the room you intend to put it in has a high enough ceiling. It is recommended that there remains at least 3 feet of space between the top of the bed and the ceiling.

As stated, the Camaflexi Twin Size High Loft Bed is available in four finishes: cappuccino, gray, white and natural.

What Users Say About Camaflexi Twin Size Loft Bed

At the time of this writing there were close to 400 ratings on the Camaflexi loft bed at Wayfair alone, with the average rating of 4.5 stars. Almost 70% of reviewers gave the bed five stars. Five reviewers in total (1.2%) gave it a one star.

The Pros

The reviewer’s talk mostly about sturdiness. Looks great and is nice and sturdy / feels very sturdy / is very sturdy and well built / INCREDIBLY sturdy, doesn’t wiggle or shimmy / super sturdy — these are just a few excerpts from the buyers’ comments. Sturdy seems to be the operating word, there’s nary a review without it.

Some praise goes to the packaging and as a result the condition the bed arrived in. There are lots of comments on the appearance as well, one-sided of course, the bed being lauded as nice looking and even beautiful.

Everyone loves the gained space underneath the bed, and is sharing pictures of how it’s being used. Small couches, easy chairs, desks, dressers… It’s a tall bed, pretty much anything will fit in there.

The assembly is said to be easy by some, not too bad by others. May take a few hours but it’s not hard, seems to be the prevalent sentiment. Although, there are some less enthusiastic opinions about it. One user called the assembly pretty challenging, another feels there is definitely some work putting the bed together. Yet another warned to not even try to do it yourself if you have any kind of arthritis or carpal tunnel, or ‘anything that impairs your hand and upper body strength.’ But of course you already knew that.

The Cons

Negative comments are rare. One user feels the finish scratches easily and warns to be careful when trying to remove the numbered stickers. Another reported several of the mattress support slats were warped, and it made screwing them into the bed rather difficult. Yet another complained the wooden slats under the mattress were unfinished so she had to paint them white or they would have looked ‘horrible.’

Well, I don’t know about ‘horrible,’ but it is a common complaint when it comes to bunk beds and loft beds. Fortunately it’s not a difficult thing to fix if it’s really bothering you.

Bottom Line

If what you need is a tall, sturdy, uncomplicated and not too expensive loft bed made out of real wood, this one, by all accounts, deserves a close look.
